Manual Proton Kit

PROTON KIT

This Proton kit is intended for processing autologous blood products for the treatment of joints and tendons. The kit consists of single-use medical-grade components, all of which are sterile and individually packaged. Please note that anti-coagulant ACD-A is required for the use of this kit, and it is not included.

Warnings:

  • The components cannot be reused
  • Do not use the components if the sterile packaging is damaged
  • Intended for veterinary use only

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Blood Collection

  1. Fill both 50ml syringes without a luer lock with 5ml sterile ACD-A anti-coagulant each
  2. Prepare the jugular vein of the horse for aseptic blood collection
  3. Aspirate 35ml of blood into each of the 50ml syringes, filling them up to 40ml
  4. Rotate the syringes several times to ensure thorough mixing of the blood with the anti-coagulant

Step 2: Centrifugation

  1. Fill all blood tubes with the collected blood. The volume in both filter containers must be exactly the same
  2. Place the red blood tube holders opposite to each other in the centrifuge
  3. Insert the blood tubes into these holders
  4. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 1400 G (3400 RPM)
  5. After centrifugation, disinfect the septum of the blood tubes with the provided alcohol wipes
  6. Connect the vacutainer holder to the 50ml syringe with a luer lock
  7. Aspirate all plasma from the blood tubes into this 50ml syringe

Step 3: Ultracentrifugation of the Plasma

  1. Gently divide the plasma into the supplied 2 tubes for ultracentrifugation
  2. Place the blue tube holders opposite each other in the centrifuge
  3. Insert the filled tubes into these holders
  4. Centrifuge for 10 minutes at 1400 G (3400 RPM)
  5. After centrifugation, disinfect the septum of the blood tubes with the provided alcohol wipes
  6. Aspirate the plasma from each tube with a long needle into a 20ml syringe
  7. Connect the red adapter to the syringe for easy distribution to other syringes

Storage:

  • Use the plasma within 4 hours
  • Unused plasma can be stored for up to 12 months (frozen at -18°C). 
  • Use the provided ziplock bags and note the date, horse’s name, and owner’s name
